FIRST MAJOR DEVELOPMENT FOR CARLISLE’S ENTERPRISE ZONE
Sytner Group Ltd, owners of prestigious, state of the art dealerships across the UK, will be one of the first companies to take advantage of the benefits of locating on the Carlisle Kingmoor Enterprise Zone when work starts on their new high-tech Mercedes-Benz dealership later this year.
The company recently received planning permission to construct 3,655 sqm (40,000sqft) of built space on a highly prominent 2.02 Hectare (5 acre) site on Spellar Way fronting both the A689(w) and Brunthill Road, the main link in to the Kingstown Industrial area from the Carlisle Northern Development Route. The facility, which, when completed will see staff numbers rising from 52 to 100, will provide showroom, workshop, MOT and ancillary facilities along with extensive external display areas and customer parking.
Commenting on the company’s relocation, John Buchan, Group Project Manager for Sytner Group Ltd, said:
“Sytner Group Ltd are the UK's number one retailer for some of the world’s most prestigious marques including Ferrari, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar/Land Rover and Porsche. We are looking forward to relocating our existing Mercedes Benz business to a fantastic new facility that we anticipate will be open early 2019."
Meanwhile Ross Nicolson, Kingmoor Park’s Chief Executive, said:
“We are delighted that this prestigious company are relocating to Kingmoor Park. To undertake such a substantial, high quality development is a demonstration of the confidence the company has in Cumbria’s premier business location. It will also increase footfall and vehicle numbers in the locality which will mean many more people accessing the site and seeing first-hand what Kingmoor Park has to offer”.
Richard Percival, Director at commercial property consultants, Carigiet Cowen, acted on behalf of Kingmoor Park Properties in successfully negotiating the sale of the site. Richard, said:
“It is a number of years ago since we first began discussions with the Sytner Group about a new facility for Mercedes-Benz at Kingmoor Park. I am delighted that they will shortly be starting construction of what I am sure will be high quality development on what is undoubtedly a very prominent site. The confidence this very large financial commitment demonstrates in both Kingmoor Park and Carlisle is fantastic. I hope this will be a catalyst for other occupiers to come forward and join the outstanding mix of businesses based at Kingmoor Park.
Kingmoor Park was awarded Enterprise Zone status in April 2016. Companies that locate on an Enterprise Zone can access a number of benefits:
• Up to 100% Business Rate discount worth a maximum of £275,000 per business over a 5 year period; or
• Enhanced Capital Allowance benefits
As well as Simplified local authority planning and Government support to ensure that superfast broadband is rolled out throughout the zone.
The Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and local authorities keep all business rates growth generated by the Enterprise Zone for 25 years to invest in local economic growth.
Whilst the Sytner Group Ltd is one of the first companies to complete the planning process for their new development, since the grant of Enterprise Zone status at Kingmoor Park, there are many other companies seeking to join them including a national petrol station forecourt operator, a well-known pub chain and a variety of energy related companies.
