Carigiet Cowen are delighted to report that retail surveyor, Ben Blain has let 203-205 Dalton Road, Barrow. The corner unit was formerly occupied by the men’s fashion retailer Greenwoods until 2017 before the company went in to administration. The unit was formally placed on the market with Carigiet Cowen from late September 2017 and let again by early May 2018.

Ben commented; “We knew that it may have been difficult to achieve a new letting to another similar retailer relatively quickly for the client. At the time of marketing there was a range of other similar sized units available on Dalton Road, so we needed something to attract the potential enquirers out there. After a couple of conversations with the building owners we agreed to widen the opportunity to a range of retailers. To do this, on behalf of the clients we obtained a change of use which then allowed us to offer wider retail uses. From here, we were able to secure interest from multiple parties before running with the new tenant”.

“The most pleasing part of the transaction was the timing element from placing a board on the building to securing the new letting. In today’s retail climate, securing new lettings in around 12 months on high street properties becoming vacant is normal. Doing it in two thirds of that time is currently a huge success!”.

We understand the new tenants will be opening a café and wine bar. The venture will run weekly and on weekends with opening times stretching in to the evenings.
